Location: Pop Brixton, although you will be required to sometimes travel to other Make Shift project sites as the job requires.
Salary: £23-25k DOE
Working Days and Expected Working Hours: 40 hours per week, Monday-Friday, with flexible start times and a 1-hour lunch break every day. You will be required to work some weekends as required by the role, and time off in lieu will be given where appropriate and agreed with the Head of Marketing.
Holiday: 25 days plus Bank Holidays in 2018, rising to 30 days plus Bank Holidays in 2019.
Pop Brixton is a temporary project that has turned a plot of disused land into a unique destination and a creative workspace for local, independent businesses. It is a public destination that houses a community of some of South London’s most exciting start-ups working in food, retail, design and social enterprise.
As well as providing the space local businesses need to thrive, we work with our on-site members to make a positive difference in the community. We all invest our time and skills into charitable projects, provide free space for community events of every kind, and we host regular open workshops ranging from kids’ art classes to horticulture training in our community garden. We are a small team with a start-up mentality, where everyone goes beyond the call of duty to achieve our ambitious goals.
Pop Brixton is part of Make Shift, a company that designs, builds and manages new public destinations where communities, local entrepreneurs and independent, social businesses come together to work, learn, grow and collaborate.
ABOUT THE ROLE
The Events Curator role is a new role at Pop Brixton, and is an exciting opportunity to shape the future of Pop Brixton’s public image as part of the wider marketing and events team. You’ll be responsible for curating and delivering an exciting events programme that ties into our marketing activity, promotes our members, and welcomes a diverse range of people from our local community into Pop Brixton.
Broadly, you’ll be:
Contributing to the creation of processes and policies that help the smooth running and success of our events programme.
Working with colleagues in marketing to curate events that fit in with the broader Pop Marketing Strategy.
Ensuring that events are run to agreed budgets.
Overseeing the end-to-end delivery of events.
Maintaining close relationships with community organisations in Brixton and the surrounding area, working with the Social Action Manager.
Being the first port of call for colleagues on all things events.

Events are a big part of what we do at Pop, and we’re looking for someone who can create a vibrant events programme that makes everyone feel welcome in our space and who is a master-organiser who can run events with pinpoint precision.

Are highly creative - you can think around corners and perform dizzying feats of mental acrobatics when it comes to solving complex challenges with simple solutions.
Love to learn - we’re a close-knit team, and often collaborate on projects outside of our expertise. We need someone who can thrive on the positive but can also take feedback constructively and, vitally, use what they’ve learned to get better.
Like being accountable - in our small team, we’re each directly responsible for our own work and we need someone who is able to take responsibility immediately and effectively from day one.
Are an all-round events whizz - you want to get your hands dirty developing processes and strategies and handling the running of events.
What this is likely to mean in real life, is:
You have 1-3 years of experience, gained in-house or at a full-service events agency.
You have a track record of delivering high-impact events that deliver on their promise.
You understand how to measure the success of an event and can tell us about it at interview.
You have run a variety of events with different focuses and objectives.
You have self-managed a diverse workload, prioritising and making difficult decisions about which activity will have the greatest effect.
You’re great with people, and have managed multiple stakeholder relationships productively.
Ideally, you know and love Brixton and South London - you get the vibe, and want to be part of the growth of the area as an entrepreneurial community that is open to all.

Stage 1 - Telephone Interview - a 30-minute initial chat with Make Shift’s Marketing Lead.
Stage 2 - In-Person Interview - a 75-minute meeting with Make Shift’s Marketing Lead along with colleagues from the Events and Marketing team where you will be asked to make a short presentation.
